Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before they start a review on SciExpert — how the workspace is priced, how expert review works, and what happens to your manuscript.

The platform

What is SciExpert?

SciExpert is a research workspace with 76 services — literature search, screening, extraction, meta-analysis, risk of bias, power calculation, writing and integrity checks — plus a marketplace where you can hire a verified expert to review your manuscript.

Where do the papers come from?

AI Search, Consensus Meter, Citation Explorer and Journal Finder query the open OpenAlex scholarly index live, alongside anything you have saved in your own reference library.

Can I add my own papers?

Yes. Save records from AI Search, add a paper by DOI, import BibTeX, RIS or a Zotero library, or bulk-drop PDFs into the ingestion queue for automatic metadata and OCR.

Does the AI decide which papers to include?

No. In screening the AI prepares cited evidence per criterion; the include or exclude decision is yours and is recorded with your reason.

Do I need to install anything?

No. SciExpert runs in the browser. Optional extras are the browser importer extension and the cite-while-you-write add-in for Word and Google Docs.

Plans and billing

How is SciExpert priced?

Plans differ only by the monthly AI token allowance. You are billed per token at $2.00 per million tokens, and the allowance and remaining balance are always visible in your profile.

What happens when I run out of tokens?

AI services pause until the next monthly reset or until you upgrade. Everything that does not call a model — your library, exports, calculators and saved work — keeps working.

Can I change or cancel my plan myself?

Yes. Upgrade, downgrade, cancel or resume from the billing page. Upgrades are prorated against the current period and cancellations take effect at the end of the period you already paid for.

Do you issue invoices?

Every subscription payment and every expert review produces a numbered, VAT-ready PDF invoice you can download from billing.

Can I pay in Egyptian Pounds?

Yes. Egyptian users can pay by bank transfer or InstaPay in EGP. For InstaPay you upload the transfer screenshot and an administrator confirms it before the order starts.

Hiring an expert reviewer

How does hiring an expert work?

Reviewers set their own rate per page or per paper. You see the total and estimated turnaround before ordering, upload your manuscript privately, and receive a written report inside the order.

How are reviewers matched to my paper?

Matching scores a reviewer's publication record, subject areas and past turnaround against your manuscript, and screens for conflicts of interest such as shared affiliation or co-authorship.

When does the reviewer get paid?

Funds are held in escrow. The reviewer is paid only after the report is delivered and you accept it, or after an administrator resolves a dispute.

What if the report is not what I paid for?

Open a dispute inside the order. The escrow stays frozen while an administrator reads the thread and the deliverables, then releases, splits or refunds.

Privacy, security and data

Who can see my uploaded manuscript?

Only you and the reviewer assigned to that order. Files sit in private storage behind short-lived signed links, and every replaced version is kept on the order record.

Are my files or prompts used to train AI models?

No. Your files are never used for training and are never sold or shared.

Can I export everything?

Yes. Your reference library, generated outputs, engine results and account data can be exported at any time from the Your Data page.

Do you support single sign-on and enforced two-factor?

Two-factor is available to every account. SAML/OIDC single sign-on, enforced 2FA and audit-log export are enterprise add-ons described on the Security page.

AI quality and integrity

How do you stop hallucinated citations?

A guardrail resolves every citation an AI draft produces against the retrieved records before the text reaches your document, and flags any reference it cannot verify.

Can I see what a run cost?

Yes. Every agent run is logged with its model, token count, cost and inputs so a result can be reproduced and audited.

Does SciExpert support Arabic?

The interface supports right-to-left Arabic, and the Arabic academic service normalises terminology and register for scholarly writing.
