How to use AI Search

AI Search queries the OpenAlex index live and synthesizes an answer only from the records it retrieved, with each claim numbered back to the paper it came from.

Before you start

• • A signed-in SciExpert account

Steps

   Open AI Search

   From the workspace sidebar choose AI Search. On mobile, open the All menu and tap AI Search.

   Write the question the way you would ask a colleague

   Full sentences work better than keywords. Name the population, the intervention and the outcome you care about, for example: does intermittent fasting improve HbA1c in adults with type 2 diabetes?

   Run the search

   SciExpert queries the live OpenAlex index and then writes a synthesis using only the records it retrieved. Nothing is answered from model memory.

   Check every claim against its citation

   Each numbered claim maps to a paper in the result list. Open the DOI links for anything you plan to cite before you rely on it.

   Save the useful papers

   Send keepers to your Reference Manager library so Extract Data, Systematic Review, the AI Writer and Project Memory can reuse them without re-entry.

Tips

• • Narrow searches beat broad ones — add the population, setting or years you need.
• • Re-run the same question with a different phrasing to see how stable the evidence base is.
